A REFLECTION for JULY 4th, 2023
CHRISTIANITY — particularly the ‘Churchianity’ aspect of it — has generated its fair share of dirty waters over the centuries (as have ALL ideologies, by the way, none are free from this aspect). But I propose that it’s never smart to throw out the good with the bad — the best plan is to learn from what occurs, then separate what was true, good, and effective from the false, bad and useless. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ve done that in the good ol’ USA — we’re throwing out tried and proven truths, while at the same time launching out into unknown and untried territories, hoping everything will all will work out in the long run. — -A major recipe for disaster.
One famous historian claims from his studying human behavior over the centuries was that “The one thing we learn from history is that we never learn from history” (Arnold Toynbee) Sad to say that seems to be true, and we are continually forced to relive things that could have been avoided if we had only listened and learned.
So, what’s wrong with America at this stage of our history? What’s not working well? It looks more to me that:
— We are forsaking not only what made this country great, but what have proven to be solid truths time-tested down through history,
— and have turned a blind eye and deaf ear to the wisdom gleaned down through the ages… In summary,
— We’ve left rock solid truth for the shifting sands of trendy fads; and sadly, we’ll continue our current the downward slide unless we wake up. We are on the slippery slope downhill, picking up speed by the minute. Here's a song I wrote about that a few years back:
What went wrong? Where did we get off track? I think this scripture sums it up:
Ps 9:17 “The wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget God”
